Philosophy of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Essay

Philosophy of Gandhi and Martin Luther King - Essay ExampleGandhi was the proponent of non frenzy. He advocated that the victor against oppressor shadower only be achieved when the one who is struggling makes himself stand on higher moral plinth than the oppressor. For this the means of the oppressed has to be different rather opposite of what the oppressor is adopting. Since oppressor adopts violence than the oppressed will be more successful if he adopts non violence as his strategy of dealing with the situation. He ground his hypothesis on ahimsa which does not advocate mere non violence but it also stress upon absence of the desire to kill or harm (Chapple 10). That is why he said the ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of fall evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate only love can do th at.Malcolm X had a somewhat variant view than Gandhi and Martin Luther King. He was of the opinion that violence has to be adopted to fight violence. It may not be always but colony of total non violence strategy will not lead to success. That was why he said Our objective is complete freedom, justice and equality by whatever means necessary. However, it was not sheer violence which he professed instead he was of the opinion that violence should be adopted according to the necessity of the situation. To adopt violence for self defense was not violence but intelligence. It is evident that above mentioned three great mens philosophy can be categorise into two main philosophies. Causes of Employee Turnover Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Causes of Employee Turnover - Research Paper ExampleAs the root outlines, the construct of employee turnover is the significantly-used approach in the context of human resource management in a business organization. The simplest way to describe the end point is that it pertains to the graze or extent at which the employer or an organization loses and gains its employees or the workforce. Turnover is basically measured for the individual firms as well as for the entire industry. The concept of employee turnover refers to the workers rotation within and around the labour market, and continues between occupations, firms and different businesss. It also exists between the condition of unemployment and employment within a state (Abbasi et al., 2000). The term turnover was further defined by Price (1977) as the ratio of the number of members in an organization who have left the workplace during a sure period divided by the average number of people in that organization. Very often, tur nover is regarded with the complete process linked to the filling of a vacancy. correspond to the studies, every time that an employee vacates a position, involuntarily or voluntarily, there arises a dire need for the hiring and training of a new employee, and the cycle goes on. According to many an(prenominal) research studies, it has been suggested that the concept of turnover in an organization arises from the employees being unhappy with the organization or dissatisfied from the job. However, this is not the only reason for the employees leaving the organizations voluntarily or involuntarily. There are various former(a) factors for the occurrence of high employee turnover and they are described as follows The Economy In the exit interviews conducted with the employees, mavin of the major reasons discovered for leaving the organizations include the availability of the higher paid jobs. In the United States, it has been examined that some of the workers working on minimum wage, left their jobs for some other job which paid them only 50cents more per hour (Shamsuzzoha, n.d.). Thus, in the better economies, the vacancies in higher paying jobs would increase the employee turnover in many other less paying organizations. The characteristics of the job There are some jobs which are fundamentally more attractive and higher paid than other jobs in the homogeneous field. The attractiveness of a job is influenced by the challenges, repetitiveness, perceived significance, inherent dangers, and the growth opportunities. A bad match between the employees skills and the job Every job requires a proper match and parallel characteristics between the employee and the job. However, those employees, who are normally hired for the tough jobs or do not match the qualifications and expertise required by the job, leave the organization in a short span of time. Therefore, the turnover rate in an organization also increases due to the lack of compatibility between the job spec ification and job description.

Taking The movie Candy man 1992. With reference to the opening scene Essay

Taking The movie Candy man 1992. With reference to the opening scene and at least one former(a) scene from the film, discuss how the - search ExampleHowever, when the scene changed into an image of swarming bees with a terrifying, hollow voice in the background the meditative mood of the city changed into something threatening. Similarly, the scene where Helen Lyle is listening to the actual tale of Candyman creates the same threat-- a threat that something very dreadful is approaching. The muffled screaming in the background, alongside menacing sound effects, adds to the terror of Candymans tragic story. former(a) film genres try to emotionally rouse viewers, but it is only the horror genre that rouses a certain and powerful emotional impact on the viewers. And although other film genres portray terrifying events, only horror films showcase the terrible, making terror its rationale. Horror never fails to discover a new frightening frontlet to reflect existing issues, unearthing t he sinister facet to every desire, whether in a suburb or in deep space. A General Overview of the Symbols and Meanings in Candyman Candyman shows handed-down horror and macabre premises accompanied by a hounded female protagonist, the antagonist is a supernatural monster always hungry for a kill. Helen Lyle is an abused and emotionally tortured woman inflicting defensible vengeance, a demented murderer with a delusive second self. Thus the film establishes itself strongly and casually in a macabre ritual of horror. Common difficulties make the analysis of the film quite challenging. The finale, even though depicting brutal death for the enjoyment of the viewers, rejects the entirely explicit moral pleasure of blameless ceremonial killing. Real and widely recognised scenery magnifies racial and social realities, interrupting the geographical dislocation normally compel by the genre (Botting, 2001). Emphasising the combination of shock and inescapability, several film scholars sum up Candymans classic components knee-jerk shocks, stalking bogeyman, and touches of dark humour (Botting, 2001, p. 140). They also say that the film locates the horrors in an identifiable and credible landscape of urban decay (Botting, 2001, p. 140). Such juxtaposition upsets long-established beliefs and obscures analytic interpretation. As McCabe argues, while it may be pat to read Candyman as a complicated utopian fantasy of multicultural reproduction, it is also possible to read it as vicarious male desire for a black man who will finally give an uppity white girl what shes been asking for (Botting, 2008, pp. 66). Although the movie somewhat depicts social criticisms, especially as regards racial relations, the horror settles in the grisly entity of the black man and hence verifies racially prejudiced views of victimisation of white females and black sexual sadism. Where, traditionally, the issue of hotfoot embraces conflict, in Candyman the concept of race turns into a major manifestation of evil and when summoned, it erases all other options of gruesome character. Although the movie presents only a handful of positive depictions of evil and appears to verify the most horrible fears of the white race in the black character that comes out, with vicious and brutal purpose, in the personal spaces of the home, the obstacles could be hyperbolise (Botting, 2001). Candyman is not merely summoned by the white people he also draws

How Indian Cinema Evolved over the Years EssayA hundred years ago on this date, Indias first learn raja Harishchandra was released. Over the past hundred years, our cinema and its facets have evolved and howThe hoagy From mooch to macho From a bulky mustached Raj Kapoor in the 40s to a six pack flaunting, butt-baring John Abraham now, the Bollywood fighter has had quite a makeover. The 50s was the era of method-acting with the equals of Dilip Kumar, while in the 60s, Rajesh khanna and Dev Anand epitomised ro hu realityityce on screen. After Khannas guru kurtas and fluffy hairtop, Amitabh Bachchan brought the angry young man into the picture in the 70s and 80s with Zanjeer, Deewar and Agneepath, also bringing to the fore, bell bottoms and side burns. The 90s was the time of the lover boys Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan dancing in exotic foreign locales. Now, the Bollywood hero is not restricted by genre or style and fits into every mould. He is a looker, chocola tey, experimental and total paisa vasool, read Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. The heroine From feeble to fabulous In the early decades, the heroine in Indian cinema had only one objective in life, that of being a sati-savitri, who never looked beyond her family and husband. And the heroine today is the stimulatey, uber cool woman who cares for little more than her own life. Way to go girl The villainFrom scary to suave From the usual lot of wicked village zamindars, smugglers, murderers, rapist s, dacoits and terrorists, the larger-than-life Bollywood villains have be obtain rare in new age cinema. Thus the traditional villain, Loin, Shakal, Mogambo, Dr Dang and Badman, has died a natural death. The wigged, cigar-smo tycoon avatars played by the likes of Pran, Prem Chopra, Amrish Puri, have made way for smart and sometimes more-adorable-than-the-hero kind of villains. Exhibit A- Saif Ali Khan (Omkara) and Shah Rukh Khan (Don). No lines are drawn now and black characters have became grey with lead frauds playing antagonists in films, almost replacing the dedicated villains. This marked the can of ever reverberating iconic one liners like Kitne aadmi the? and Saara sheher mujhe Loin ke naam se jaanta hain. The maaRona-dhona to supercool From the God fearing and homely mum to a party freak, mothers in Bollywood have come a long way since 1930s. While Nargis in Mother India (1957) played a mother who went through hardships and struggled to bring up her offsprings, Nirupa Roy in the 70s became synonymous with uncontaminating saris and a melancholic look. Then came Reema Lagoo, with her bindi and sindoor, an ideal middle class Indian mother in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), who tried to be a friend to her son. simply now, mothers are the uber cool women who are ready to accept even same-sex couples, case in point, Kirron Kher in Dostana (2008). In the fifties, the lean Johnny Walker broke that trend and managed to win hearts with his slapstick humour. Kishore Kumar, basically a singer, redefined comedy by using his songs like Meri Pyari Bindu (Padosan 1968) as elements of fun in films. But it was Mehmood, with his fringed hair and impeccable dialogue delivery who became the king of comedy in the 1970s. The next big thing in comedy was Johnny Lever, who left audiences in splits with his body language and dialogues in fi lms like Raja Hindustani (1996) and Dulhe Raja (1998). From the days of Mukri and Mehmood, who played the heros good friend in the 1950s and 60s to the current time where actors like Arshad Warsi and Sharman Joshi play as powerful characters as the hero himself, this portrayal has had a sea change. The romanceTouch-me-not to pre -marital sex Romance in Bollywood turned from bold to coy and back to racy and bold. The silent film, A Throw of Dice (1929) saw actor Seeta Devi kiss actor Charu Roy. Post-independence, in the 1940s, romance became conservative. The Cinematograph Act in 1952, called kissing on screen indecent and romance became associated with clasping hand and staring into each others eyes. gorgerin was shown with two flowers coming together or honey bees sucking nectar from flowers. 1970s was Raj Kapoors era that brought a passion back to romance with movies such as Bobby (1973), Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978). It was the 90s that romance took a pure and sweet form the two blockbuster hits Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) Dilwale Duhaniya Le Jayenge (1995). Now, in the 2000s, pre-marital sex shown in films like salaam Namaste (2005) and Rockstar (2011), is considered cool. The musicMelodies to racy tracks The 1930 and 40s, were defined by nasal renditions by the likes of KL Saigal (Jab Dil Hi Tooth Gay a, Shahjahan, 1946) and Noorjehan. The 50s were all about soul-soothing melodies. Songs like it Pyaar Huya Ekraar Huya (Shree 420 1952) or Jaane Woh Kaise Log The (Pyaasa 1957) became epics. However, it was R D Burman, who single-handedly changed the course of Bollywood film music, and introduced westernised tunes in songs in the 60s. While 70s remained the decade of a mix of soft and fast numbers, the 80s turned Bollywood music on its head, as Bappi Lahiri brought in disco music. Disco Dancer (1982) marked the beginning of a range of high-on-noise, low-on-lyrics songs. The 1990s churned out several hugely forgettable numbers, except for musical hits like 1942 a Love Story (1994), Saajan (1991). The 2000s have been the decade of experimenting thus Sonu Nigam and Yo Yo Honey Singh both find place in the same film. However, dialogues like Kitne aadmi the, and Kuttey main tera khoon pi jaunga from Sholay, Pushpa, I hate crying from Amar Prem and Mere paas maa hai from Deewar have gone on to become epic. Photojournalism Analysis of Hong Kong Protest

Photojournalism Analysis of Hong Kong ProtestMohammad Aqdas QasemPhotojournalism and Organizational Analysis of Hong Kong ProtestPhotojournalism is an ideology that many journalists now engagement to manipulate turn ins to tell a news report in a specific way (Schwartz 223). Photojournalism is partd as a medium that captures news and they must maintain on the objectivity of their pictures at the same time they attempt to demonstrate the mastery of the craft (223). Photojournalism portrays a given news allegory, giving an illusory looking of reality, whereas truly, they be manipulating various aspects of the look-alike (such as angles, focus, and etc.) to make the story be perceived a current way (223). An important feature of photojournalism is the simplicity of the picture the power of the photograph is positively correlated with its simplicity (Schwartz 224). By creating an illusion of realism, the photojournalist is able to maintain their objectivity, which is an import ant aspect of the photo because they are aware that the interview relies on their objective record of reality (231). material body 1 is a prime example of the way photojournalism is used to give details about the up-to-date news in a simplistic manner.Figure 1. A male alongside his group of protestors seated outside a government headquarter in Hong KongFigure 1 displays a group of people sitting outside a government headquarter in front of a fence in an evening protesting collect in Hong Kong (Wong and Buckley 2014). The protestors are dressed in protective gear as a cautionary procedure to protect themselves from the guards pepper spray (2014). They are protesting for their rights to limiting the way that China determines who their leader is starting in 2017 (2014).By applying an organizational perspective, the various manners used by the photojournalist can be understood. Organizational analysis explains the exploitations of certain items in the image and the distortions of others and how these alongside the rein ins and conventions of photojournalism influence the final product/image, ultimately disturbing the objective portrayal of reality in their depiction of a story by an image. It is evident that the photojournalist relied on a common practice to retrieve this picture journalistic beats. Journalistic beats are regions in which news is pass judgment to occur regularly, so journalists attend to these respective areas waiting to capture the news when it does occur (Blackwell 67). Figure 1 was taken in front of government plate (Wong and Buckley 2014), and any place of government is a regular news producer (Blackwell 67).Figure 1 exemplifies the use of informational persuadees to structure the story. The photojournalist used the informational bias of personalization to emphasize human-interest angles and stirred impact (70). Using personalization, the photojournalist allows the audience to view the story in an individualistic manner rather than one that generalizes everybody at a societal level (70). This bias is very effective because, according to Schwartz, the audience wants to see the human side of the tragedy (226). The use of dramatization alongside personalization further exacerbates the photojournalists manipulative technique in trying to emphasize the emotional aspect of the story (Blackwell 71). Although the story is about a group of protesters fighting for democracy, Figure 1 focuses primarily on one protestor (the male in protective gear) to dramatize and heighten the audience interest (Blackwell 71). Figure 1 shows the dirty part of the story and this helps grab the readers attending because readers want to see pictures of the tragedy (Schwartz 225). The photojournalist also plays with the informational bias of authority-disorder. This bias represents a tension in the midst of one of authority (the government) and one of disorder (protesting) (Blackwell 71). By personalizing the story then exacerbating it with dramatization, it allows the photojournalist to emphasize the greater bias the tension between authority and disorder.Figure 1 also illustrates different manipulations of the form of the image to portray the story in a certain way. According to Schwartz, the aesthetics of photojournalism require the active manipulation of form in order to maintain the illusion of naturalism (228). This is evident through the use of framing, selective focusing, and the use of leading lines. The find of ternarys is the method in which framing is used as a manipulation of form. The rule of thirds is a division of the picture into three equally divided sections, both horizontally and vertically (Schwartz 229). In this division, there are four points of intersection between the lines (229). To make an image seem more dynamic and of more interest to the reader, the main purpose or subject of the image is placed within law of proximity of one of these four points (229). Figure 2 shows the four point s of intersection surround the man eating away protective gear and he takes up a third of the whole image, making him the primary focus of the image. Alongside the informational bias of dramatization, the rule of thirds allows viewers to focus on the scandalous nature of the event (how the man is wearing protective gear) by putting the man as the primary focus.Figure 2. The image of Figure 1 divided using the framing method of the rule of thirdsUsing selective focusing further manipulates the way the reader perceives the story in the image. Figure 1 shows the background is not in as some(prenominal) focus and not as sharpened as the main subject of the image, the man in protective gear. Although, the other group of protestors are not alone taken out of focus of the image, probably to further emphasize the personalization of the protesting and to exacerbate the event, they are not the primary focus. Also, the photojournalist blurs the fence or gate that the protestors are sitting i n front of and this has a strong effect towards the overall story and picture. The blurring of the gates that the protestors are sitting in front makes it look like the protestors are in a prison. This selective focusing emphasizes the authority (government) and disorder (criminals) tension and seems to favour the authority side of the pull. By portraying the protestors as prisoners, through selective focusing, the photojournalist resolves the authority-disorder tension by edging towards the direction of authority.Figure 3 shows the photojournalists use of leading lines as a manipulation of the image to shift the focus. The photojournalist uses the method of leading lines to further emphasize the main area of interest of their image/news (Schwartz 230). The lines in this image, as shown in Figure 3, are portrayed through the bars of the gate in the picture. These lines of direction or leading lines put further attention the center protestor, strengthening his focus in the image.Figu re 3. The use of the gate bars as leading lines to direct the audiences attentionIn conclusion, through an organizational analysis perspective, photojournalism attempts to convey a story through an image while trying to maintain a sense of objectivity. However, because photojournalism is an organizational culture itself, the profession follows a set of conventions and rules (Blackwell 59), thus it is not possible to maintain a sense of objectivity. Although photojournalists are taking real life pictures, they do manipulate the ways in which the photographs are taken, as explained above, and this further distorts reality for the viewer, guiding their teaching in the story the image is telling in a specific direction. This is an example of a consequence of news conventions within photojournalism (76) and is shown using the above example. Ultimately, move on the codes of objectivity in photojournalism, as discussed by Schwartz, the photograph presents reality subjectively, guiding th e audiences view towards a specific direction, in this case authority-driven, that portrays the protestors as criminals that are trying to go against the government.Works CitedOtt, Brian L. and Robert L. The Play The Crucible By Arthur Miller English Literature Essay

The Play The Crucible By Arthur Miller English Literature EssayThe hoyden The Crucible by Arthur Miller is set in the New England town of capital of Oregon, Massachusets in the year 1692. This has a very important effect on the make. Salem is populated mainly with puritans, or a person who is strict in moral or religious matters. Therefore, there were strict rules as to what it mean to be a Christian. Now, you are inoccent until proven guilty. However in that time, you were guilty until proven innocent. Things that happened in the play, such as the witch trials, could provided happen in a theocracy based on literal Christianity. A subsetting in the play is the forest within Salem. The forest was seen as the last strong hold of evil in the town. Abigail and the girls danced in the forest, therefore it was seen as ruled by the devil, when Salem was seen as ruled by god.PlotA group of girls go dancing in the woods lead by an African American slave aroused, Tituba. noble-minded Parr is daughter Betty falls into a coma-like state.Revernd Parris s give ups for Reverand Hale, an expert of witchcraft.Elizabeth urges magic to denounce Abigail as a fraud.Mary Warren, returns from Salem with the news that Elizabeth has been charges with witch craft.Giles Correy and Francis Nurse arrest Elizabeth.John monitoring device forces Mary Warren to testify that the girls are lying.Elizabeth is spared for time because she is pregnant.John reminder convinces Danforth to allow Mary Warren to testify and Mary tells the court the girls are lying. When the group of girls are brought in the accuse Mary of bewitching them.John reminder confesses his afair with Abigail Williams and accuses her of being motivated by the jealousy of his wife.Danforth asks Elizabeth if her husband has been unfaithful to her, only when says he hasnt to spare her husbands name. She did not know John had already confessed.Mary accuses John Proctor of being a witch.John Proctor is arrested and Hale quits the proceedings.Abigail Williams runs away, taking Reverand Parris money with her.Reverand Hale begs the accused witches to confess falsely to save their lives, but they will not.Elizabeth trys to talk John into confessing.John confesses but refuses to incriminate anyone else, and ends up retracting his confession.CharactersThere are many important characters in The Crucible. One of them is Reverand Samuel Parris. Reverand Parris is an egolistic man that was more than concerned with his reputation than the sickness of his child. He has made many changes to his church that are to the peoples dismay. He was strongly disliked for straying away from the ways of the Puritan Church, such as placing gold within the church and wanting to own the house that the church had provided for him. John Proctor, the protagonist in this play as strong as a target of Reverand Parris, is an otherwise important character. Mr. Proctor is a man in his thirties, and is seems unlike the other men in the to wn. He had a brief afair with Abigain, and is making it his duty to stop the witch hunt that he and his wife, Elizabeth Proctor, have found themselve caught up in. Mr.Proctors wife, Elizabeth Proctor, has a non-affectionate demeanor towards her very caring husband, leading(a) him into the arms of Abigail. This makes Elizabeth Abigails main target, for she thinks if she is gone, she whave a chance with Mr. Proctor. Abigail Williams, the teenage neice of Reverand Parris, is the main force behind the witch hunt. She is the leader of the victims claiming to be possesed who are in search of the towns witches. Abigails cousin, Betty Parris, is the decennary year old daughter of Reverand Parris. She mysteriously became ill after being caught by her father dancing with the other girls in the woods naked. Bettys illness brings Reverend Hale to Salem to check for signs of witchcraft. Reverand Hale is a revered reverand who starts a massive outbreak of people being accused. He realizes the c orruption of the outbreak and tries to nurse the lives of innocent people.ThemesMany themes are portrayed in this pay. One of them is lie and deciet. Most, if not all of the characters are lying in some way. If not to other people, then to themselves. Along with, Respect and Reputation, the social status in the town is tied to ones ability to substain the unspoken religious rules. A good name is the only way you will survive, such as getting people to do buissiness with you or unconstipated getting a fair hearing in court, just reputation means nothing when it comes to witch craft. Another theme is Good and Evil. The village bases their belief system between good vs evil, or god vs satan. The play is divided into two camps, but nobody truly understands which side is good, and which side is bad. Then of course, theres the theme of jealousy. However, the main theme is forethought. Fear of the devil allows the witch trials to proceed, fear of death causes people to lie and say they re witches, and the fear of lying causes inocent people to die.Quotations crook 4- John Proctor Because its my name Because i cannot have another in my life Because I lie and sign myself to lies Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul leave me my name John cares more about he and his friends reputations that his own lifeAct 3- John Proctor A man may think god sleeps, but God sees everything. I know that now.-John now realizes that what he did was Abigail was a sin and that it was wrong, and he claims he will not make the same mistake again.Act 1- Abigail Williams I danced for the devil I saw him, I wrote in his book I go back to Jesus I kiss his hand -Abigail is worried about being disgraced for having cast charms, dancing, and worshipping the devil with her friends and hopes she can be forgiven and return to god.Act 2- Elizabeth Proctor John, grant me this. You have a faulty understanding of young girls. There is a promise made in any bed -Elizabeth is nerve-wracking to explain to her husband, John, that Abigail is accusing her of being a witch because she is jealous of her and wants John to herself.Act 3- Danforth You must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between. This is a sharp time, now, a precise timewe live no longer in the dusky afternoon when evil mixed itself with good and befuddled the world.-He is saying that everything and everyone belongs to God or the Devil. The court as well as the government of Massachusets unavoidably belong to God. That means, anyone who disagrees with the courts activities is not an honest opponent.Questions1) Why did they set the people that claimed to have worshipped the devil free, rather than the ones that claimed they didnt?2) What started the witch trials?3) How did the witch trials end and who ended them?4)5)ResponseI believe things that happened in the Salem Witc h Trials were highly unfair and uncalled for. It made me realize that Im very greatful to live in the association we live in straight off. The court was unfair and people got killed for no reason. If the court had not improved since then, I cannot even begin to imagine what society today would be like. I think they should have at least found evidence of people being guilty before they were hung, rather than taking peoples word. still because they swore to tell the truth, doesnt mean they actaully do.Assignment 2ExpositoryCreativeDear Elizabeth Proctor,Throughout the play, i found you one of the most inspiring characters. You were a contract and wife, who has been through a great deal. You were accused of witchcraft simply because of jealousy, and were cheated on but still managed to help your husband when he was in need. The way you carried yourself even though you were accused of something you hadnt actually done is really amazing. You stayed true to who you are and didnt break down like many of the others that had been accused did. When the court asked you to step in and convince John to confess, even though you knew he didnt, you helped him decide what was best to do for not only yourself, but for him aswell.
